Rabbinic and Cantorial Coaching

All outstanding performers - athletes, actors, musicians, writers, and artists - have a coach. Rabbinic and Cantorial Coaching is a personalized ongoing one-on-one process in which a rabbi or cantor enhances skills in identified growth areas. The process begins with administering an extensive intake questionnaire, along with a Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI), Fundamental Interpersonal Relationship Organizational Behavior Leadership Style Indicator (FIRO-B) and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Instrument (TKI). The results are integrated into a learning plan that is incorporated with other materials in a customized personal binder, which is used during all subsequent coaching sessions. Thereafter, we meet on the phone, skype, or in person at regular intervals. Issues and new skills to learn are documented on a session-summary sheet for the rabbi or cantor to work on between coaching sessions.

" What kind of rabbi do I want to be? What impact does my leadership style have on those around me? Most importantly, what is my purpose? Why did I become a rabbi in the first place? Working with Steve forced me to examine these core issues. Give yourself the gift of rabbinic coaching. It will enhance your rabbinate. "

Rabbi Jonathan Hecht, Dean, HUC-JIR, Cincinnati, OH

" I think that working with you is great. It gives me insights into the sacred work that I do and reminds me that I am not alone. "

Rabbi Daniel Gropper, Community Synagogue, Rye, New York

" Steve has an extraordinary ability through genuine instinct and insight to guide professional staff teams to see their potential. As a cantor, Steve has helped me to further develop my leadership skills as well as solidify my place in the many and varied relationships within our congregation. He pushes me to frame core issues in terms of my personal and professional growth keeping ever present the sacred responsibility of our work. Steve is a real mensch and I am a better cantor for working with him. "

Cantor Barbara R. Finn, Congregation Albert, Albuquerque, New Mexico

" In my work with Steve, I have found his insights and advice to be right on target. This comes as no surprise. He has a keen understanding of the rabbi's responsibility, work, and professional pitfalls. Steve is uniquely qualified to offer counsel. Rabbis of all denominations are well advised to seek it. "

Rabbi Greg Marx, Congregation Beth Or, Maple Glen, Pennsylvania
